I wish I could properly explain to everyone how this beautiful person has drastically changed my life.
In order to properly document the slow progression of our ridiculous friendship, have a photoset of some of the cosplays we’ve tackled together. Most of these photos are the ridiculous giggly ones that were never supposed to see the light of day but, you know what, I think some of them are hilarious. On top of that, they are a GREAT example of how stupid we both are.
So yeah, thank you Inky. Because seriously, can you guess how boring my life would be if you weren’t in it? Damn boring, is the answer.
Um so. Wow. She gives me way too much credit. Apparently what Alaina doesn’t notice is that in the other half of all of these pictures, that’s her being absolutely fantastic and wonderful. ;u;
I can’t express how incredible it’s been to get to know her. Alaina, you are an amazing person, even when you don’t think you are. So remember, that, okay? Because wow.
And pfft my life would be boring, too. I’m glad we are mutually entertaining to each other! XD But seriously. I love your face, friend. ;u; <3 <3
I stole this idea from an old friend, but it looked like fun. This ACen marked my five year cosplaying anniversary, and I just sort of wanted to see where I came from.
On the left is my Kuchiki Rukia from 2008. My mom made the outfit, I’m using my real hair, which is dyed and styled with gel, and this is the best picture I have of it.
On the right is my Sha Gojyo from 2013. I made the entire outfit without patterns, styled most of the wig (aside from the ahoges), and helped with the prop (mom assembled most of it). I’m bound, wearing colored contacts, and using special effects make up for the scars.
In short, I’ve got a very, very long way to go, but I also think I’ve come a pretty decent way. I have a lot to learn, but I’m pretty proud of what I’ve accomplished in five years.

Saiyuki: ACen 2013

I adore how these shots turned out. In reality, we were laughing and squinting in the sun and almost falling over, but we managed to get two somewhat decent shots! :D What a fun two days!!
Technically, I was back on Sunday, but I needed a day to recover XD ACen was fantastic this year, and I got to go with a bunch of fantastic people like Alaina, Jazz, Morgan, and Jacob! I ran into a bunch of old friends and made new ones, and just generally had a great time!

Saiyuki Anime Central 2013

Just a little sample of our Saiyuki cosplays from ACen 2013. We’ll be posting more later, but we hope you’ll enjoy these for the time being!
Genjo Sanzo | Son Goku | Cho Hakkai | Sha Gojyo
This was seriously some of the most fun I’ve had in a costume. I loved cosplaying Saiyuki with all of these fantastic people! I love all of them, and they look fantastic! :D I can’t believe we got to do this. It was so much fun!!! I can’t wait to do another con as Gojyo!
Today Alaina’s coming in from Michigan so she can join us at ACen as Hakkai!
And Morgan’s coming over tonight to work on Sanzo and Jazz is coming over to work on Goku!
And we’re all going to sit around in a big bunch and be stupid and watch the Saiyuki anime because our full Sanzo-ikkou will be here and that’s gonna be fantastic ;u;

Ahhh! You should totally cosplay Lirin! It’d be fantastically fun! She’s got such a cute personality that you can’t really help but love her. XD And ahhh It’s so good! What a great way to get into anime! I love when you look back on your first anime. It’s got to be a great feeling to think, “Yeah. That was a good choice to start with!” haha it just sets you up for more fun! ;u;
I was getting frustrated sewing Sanzo for Morgan (which is fitting, I guess, since I’m Gojyo), and I was trying to think of something I could watch while working on it. Against Alaina/hakkai’s judgement, I pulled up the original Saiyuki anime. See, I’ve only ever read Saiyuki and seen one particularly interesting episode of Reload that involves a board game and Sanzo becoming a tree. And based on the screenshots that I had seen of the original Saiyuki anime, I wasn’t expecting much.
But it’s absolutely hilarious.
The pacing of the storyline and the art are a little “older-anime-esque”, but that’s fitting, because it’s an older anime. But the voice actors. And the line interp. Are so reminiscent of Ghost Stories that it had me dying. (Which is also fitting, since half of the cast is also in Ghost Stories: Goku is Leo, Gojyo is Keichiirou, Lirin is Satsuki…) Within sending two clips to Alaina, she decided she had to own the entire series in anime, too.
Just. Wow. I’m sort of blown away. Here I was under the impression that they butchered the manga, as so many animes have done (Soul Eater, Rurouni Kenshin, FMA, and the list goes onnnnn), when instead the original casting is just a bunch of sassy, wonderful voice actors having fun.
I had to stop a few episodes in because Alaina wants to watch the rest with me, and that probably won’t be until we can move back in together, but just wow. If you haven’t seen it, go read the manga, then watch the anime. Because it’s got to be one of the funniest things I’ve watched.

Anyway, I’m SUPER excited to do this! This was the first costume that I made completely solo and without a pattern, so I’m really proud of it ;u;

WIP shots~
So for ACen this year, I’ll be part of a four person group cosplaying as Saiyuki! I’m going as Sha Gojyo and I figured since ACen is next weekend, I should probably run a make up test to figure a few things out. (Also I spent yesterday finding fabric for our Sanzo, today finding fabric for our Goku, and Hakkai decided to take a full costume WIP shot, so I felt like I needed to do SOMETHING productive with this XD)
I want to apologize for the HORRIBLE lighting and cameraphone in these pictures, as well as for my incomplete wig and headband (I still have to clean up that wig a bit and put the antenna in, and for the headband, I have to hem it and put the design on it). So. Please forgive that. I’ve got a lot to finish before ACen, but hopefully it all works out! :D
Also the scars look like they’re on the wrong side, but I took these in a mirror so no worries! :D
