Just a little sample of our Saiyuki cosplays from ACen 2013. We’ll be posting more later, but we hope you’ll enjoy these for the time being!

This was seriously some of the most fun I’ve had in a costume. I loved cosplaying Saiyuki with all of these fantastic people! I love all of them, and they look fantastic! :D I can’t believe we got to do this. It was so much fun!!! I can’t wait to do another con as Gojyo!

Today Alaina’s coming in from Michigan so she can join us at ACen as Hakkai! And...

Today Alaina’s coming in from Michigan so she can join us at ACen as Hakkai!

And Morgan’s coming over tonight to work on Sanzo and Jazz is coming over to work on Goku!

And we’re all going to sit around in a big bunch and be stupid and watch the Saiyuki anime because our full Sanzo-ikkou will be here and that’s gonna be fantastic ;u;

Ahhh! You should totally cosplay Lirin! It’d be fantastically fun! She’s got such a cute personality that you can’t really help but love her. XD And ahhh It’s so good! What a great way to get into anime! I love when you look back on your first anime. It’s got to be a great feeling to think, “Yeah. That was a good choice to start with!” haha it just sets you up for more fun! ;u;

I was getting frustrated sewing Sanzo for Morgan (which is fitting, I guess, since I’m Gojyo), and I was trying to think of something I could watch while working on it. Against Alaina/hakkai’s judgement, I pulled up the original Saiyuki anime. See, I’ve only ever read Saiyuki and seen one particularly interesting episode of Reload that involves a board game and Sanzo becoming a tree. And based on the screenshots that I had seen of the original Saiyuki anime, I wasn’t expecting much.

But it’s absolutely hilarious.

The pacing of the storyline and the art are a little “older-anime-esque”, but that’s fitting, because it’s an older anime. But the voice actors. And the line interp. Are so reminiscent of Ghost Stories that it had me dying. (Which is also fitting, since half of the cast is also in Ghost Stories: Goku is Leo, Gojyo is Keichiirou, Lirin is Satsuki…) Within sending two clips to Alaina, she decided she had to own the entire series in anime, too.

Just. Wow. I’m sort of blown away. Here I was under the impression that they butchered the manga, as so many animes have done (Soul Eater, Rurouni Kenshin, FMA, and the list goes onnnnn), when instead the original casting is just a bunch of sassy, wonderful voice actors having fun.

I had to stop a few episodes in because Alaina wants to watch the rest with me, and that probably won’t be until we can move back in together, but just wow. If you haven’t seen it, go read the manga, then watch the anime. Because it’s got to be one of the funniest things I’ve watched.

I’ll have a bunch of people with me, but as for coordinating groups, on Friday, I’ll have a Hanna, on Saturday I’ll have a Hakkai and Goku, and on Sunday, I’ll have a Hakkai, Goku, and Sanzo. :)

WIP shots~

So for ACen this year, I’ll be part of a four person group cosplaying as Saiyuki! I’m going as Sha Gojyo and I figured since ACen is next weekend, I should probably run a make up test to figure a few things out. (Also I spent yesterday finding fabric for our Sanzo, today finding fabric for our Goku, and Hakkai decided to take a full costume WIP shot, so I felt like I needed to do SOMETHING productive with this XD)

I want to apologize for the HORRIBLE lighting and cameraphone in these pictures, as well as for my incomplete wig and headband (I still have to clean up that wig a bit and put the antenna in, and for the headband, I have to hem it and put the design on it). So. Please forgive that. I’ve got a lot to finish before ACen, but hopefully it all works out! :D

Also the scars look like they’re on the wrong side, but I took these in a mirror so no worries! :D

I have applied everywhere around here that I essentially can.

Mom’s boyfriend said there’s a position at his work open. They arranged an interview for Wednesday at 2. Without talking to me.

It is literally me getting paid to get along with Mom’s boyfriend.

But I honestly don’t know if I can. She came home today and the first thing out of her mouth was, “what do you think about the job offer?” which is great because I haven’t been home since Friday and that’s how she greets me. And Ken was like “Wednesday at 2. If you meet with the manager, maybe then you can actually get a job.” But like. In the cruelest way ever.

He broke into my car last month and stole $30 from me.

He’s stolen thousands of dollars worth of silver from my mom.

I refuse to even sit at the dinner table with him out of principal.

But Mom and all of her family are absolutely convinced he’s a saint. And if I don’t get a job, Mom will legitimately mock me forever and constantly tell me that I could have worked at Ken’s place.

Over and over and over.

Passive aggressively.

I broke down into tears last night when she called me and told me about the offer. I just cried. For like 2 hours straight. Because I honestly don’t know what to do.

I’ve been home for less than a week and a half and already I’m getting this.

She’s outside talking with him right now. There is no Mom when he’s around. The 60% of a care that she normally gives us is just gone when he’s here. Everything is about him. You can’t ask her a question. She will automatically say “Oh, Ken knows ___” or “Ken’s really good at___”. Like to the point of if I’m like, “Can I get some Cheerios? We’re out of cereal.” She’s legitimately like, “When Ken was young, they didn’t have breakfast, and he just loves that I can make him eggs. He’s so good at making coffee.”

Every morning. I am reminded. That Ken is good at making coffee. Every. Damn. Morning.

When he’s home, I ignore him. I don’t laugh at his jokes, I don’t really talk to him unless I have to.

But it’s money.

It’s money and I have to pay rent this year and what if I don’t get a job other than this?

I’d so much rather be back up in Michigan, working at McDonald’s with Alaina. But that won’t happen. My only hope is that somewhere around here will hire me. And if they don’t, maybe this McDonald’s will take me.

And if that doesn’t happen by Wednesday at 2, I have to go to this interview, don’t I? And then I have to be indebted to this stranger who sleeps in my Mom’s bed, who has stolen my mother from me.

And I don’t know what to do.

It’s such a fucking great way to lead up to Mothers’ Day.

So as some of you have heard, Alaina and I are working on a comic together! She has the wonderful Ashley McMallen, and I’ve got his best friend, Maximus Lorb. Lorb has some antlers that come out of his head, but I couldn’t fit those on a page of so many expressions. I’ll add a picture of those soon.

For some of these, I used Flynn Rider as a reference. This was really just an exercise in expressions, since i’m normally so bad at them, and consistency, since that’s one of my biggest weaknesses.

Annnyway. I hope you guys like him! I’ll definitely be posting more of him! (He’s so much fun to draw omg.)

A quick WIP selfie of Hakkai. I do. Not know how to style wigs without Inkypop’s constant supervision, so sorry that the wig looks ROYALLY ridiculous. In my defense, it didn’t look too horrible until I tossed the headband under it and suddenly EVERYTHING CHANGED.

But yes, I still have to make the monocle a little more practical (add a more comfortable nose-piece and such) and silver that up, and probably mess with the wig a little more. My contacts are in the mail, too, so hopefully I’ll have glorious green eyes! ~~(and hopefully Inkypop doesn’t need to hold me down and put them in my eyes herself this time around…)~~

Oh yeah, and I have to make like. The shirt still. That too.

But! I’m happy with how this is moving along. I love your faces and sorry about. My own. Face.
